Description

Delightful bars combining warm flavors of cinnamon and nutmeg with the sweetness of apples, perfect for sharing.


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup (50g) brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (180g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 medium apple, peeled and finely diced
  • 2 tbsp (25g) granulated sugar (for topping)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch pan with parchment paper for easy removal.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Fold in the diced apple until evenly distributed.
  7. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared pan.
  8. In a small bowl, mix together the topping sugar and ground cinnamon; sprinkle over the batter.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden edges form and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  10. Allow to cool completely before cutting and serving.

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature or 1 week in the refrigerator.
