Description

A comforting and rich beef lasagna with layers of cheesy goodness and hearty meat sauce, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 2 cans tomato sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 1.5 teaspoons dried basil
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 cups whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
  • Lasagna noodles
  • 2 cups grated mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  2. Add diced onions to the pot and sauté for 8-10 minutes until softened. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Stir in tomato paste and cook for 2-3 minutes. Return the beef to the pot and add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, bay leaves, basil, sugar, and salt. Simmer for at least 2 hours.
  4. In a medium bowl, mix ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  5. Cook lasagna noodles in salted boiling water until al dente. Drain and lay out to prevent sticking.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish. Spread some meat sauce in the bottom, layer with noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers and finish with noodles, meat sauce, and more mozzarella and Parmesan on top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes until top is golden and bubbly.
  8. Let it rest for 15-30 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

Let the lasagna rest after baking for cleaner slices. Use quality ingredients for better flavor.
