- 1 cup mascarpone cheese (room temperature)
- ⅓ cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 ½ cups strong brewed espresso or coffee (cooled)
- 3 tbsp amaretto liqueur
- 1 package (about 7 oz) ladyfinger cookies (savoiardi)
- 1 ½ cups cherry preserves or cherry pie filling
- ½ cup fresh cherries, pitted and halved (plus more for topping)
- Unsweetened cocoa powder (for dusting)
- Fresh cherries (with stems, optional)
- Shaved chocolate or sliced almonds (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form.
- Gently blend in the mascarpone cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- In a separate shallow bowl, combine cooled espresso with the amaretto liqueur.
- Dip each ladyfinger into the espresso mixture quickly, ensuring they are not soaked completely.
- Line the bottom of a 9×9-inch dish with the dipped ladyfingers.
- Spread half of the mascarpone cream mixture evenly over the ladyfingers.
- Spoon half of the cherry preserves and fresh cherry halves atop the mascarpone layer.
- Repeat layering with another round of dipped ladyfingers, remaining mascarpone cream, and cherry mixture.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight.
- Before serving, dust with cocoa powder and add any desired decorative garnishes.

This dessert improves in flavor when made a day in advance. Use high-quality espresso for the best taste.
