Description

These chewy gingerbread bars blend the comfort of brownies with classic gingerbread flavors, topped with cream cheese frosting for an extra treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly spray with non-stick cooking spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, sugar, molasses, and egg until smooth.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, ground cinnamon, salt, ground ginger, and ground cloves.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan and bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
  6. Once baked, cool the pan on a wire rack.
  7. For the frosting, beat together cream cheese and butter until smooth, then add sifted powdered sugar to taste.
  8. Once cool, frost the bars and cut into squares.
