Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups warm water
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 8 cups water
  • ⅓ cup baking soda
  • ½ cup melted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, mix flour and salt, then add the yeast mixture and melted butter. Stir until combined.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide into 16 pieces, rolling each into a 10-12 inch rope.
  6. Boil 8 cups of water, add baking soda, and boil each pretzel stick for 20-25 seconds.
  7. Preheat oven to 425°F (218°C) and bake pretzels for 12-14 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Brush with melted butter, then roll in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.
