Description

Warm, pillowy soft pretzels coated in a crisp cinnamon-sugar mixture, perfect for indulgent snacks or gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • ¼ cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk warm water and 1 tablespoon sugar. Sprinkle yeast over it and let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add salt and flour to the bowl. Stir until a rough dough forms, then knead for 6–8 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Divide the dough into 8 pieces and shape each into a pretzel twist.
  5. In a large pot, boil several quarts of water and stir in baking soda. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds on each side, then drain and place on a baking sheet.
  6. Brush each pretzel with beaten egg and bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Mix ½ cup sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Roll warm pretzels in the mixture until coated.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Best enjoyed fresh out of the oven; can be stored for up to 24 hours at room temperature.
