- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Stir in the sugar, water, and salt. Mix well until combined.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Continue cooking until it reaches a golden brown color, about the hard crack stage (300°F or 150°C).
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the hot toffee onto a prepared baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread it out evenly.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee, allowing them to melt, then spread the melted chocolate evenly.
- If desired, sprinkle chopped nuts on top of the chocolate.
- Let the toffee cool completely before breaking it into pieces.
Notes
Stir constantly while cooking to prevent burning. Use a candy thermometer for best results.
