Description

A delightful homemade candy with rich buttery flavor and crunchy texture, perfect for the holiday season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Stir in the sugar, water, and salt. Mix well until combined.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Continue cooking until it reaches a golden brown color, about the hard crack stage (300°F or 150°C).
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the hot toffee onto a prepared baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Spread it out evenly.
  6. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee, allowing them to melt, then spread the melted chocolate evenly.
  7. If desired, sprinkle chopped nuts on top of the chocolate.
  8. Let the toffee cool completely before breaking it into pieces.

Notes

Stir constantly while cooking to prevent burning. Use a candy thermometer for best results.
