Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons ice water
  • 2 cups fresh cranberries
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Additional sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and sugar.
  2. Add the chilled butter and blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Drizzle in the ice water, mixing gently until the dough holds together.
  4. Form the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine cranberries, sliced apples, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and cornstarch. Toss until evenly coated.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Roll out the dough into a 12-inch circle on a lightly floured surface and transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Spoon the fruit mixture onto the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border around the edges.
  9. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling, pleating as you go.
  10. Beat the egg and brush it over the crust, then sprinkle additional sugar on top.
  11. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling.
  12. Cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes before slicing and serving warm.
