- 1 box angel food cake mix
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 4–6 cups neutral oil (such as canola or vegetable)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon (for coating)
Instructions
- Prepare the angel food cake following the package instructions and let it cool completely.
- Slice the cooled cake into 1-inch thick slabs and then cut into 1-inch cubes.
- In one bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, and vanilla for the wet batter.
- In another bowl, combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, and salt for the dry batter.
- Heat oil in a pot to 350-375°F (175-190°C) for frying.
- Dip each cake cube into the wet batter, then coat in the dry batter before frying in batches for 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
- Drain fried bites on paper towels.
- Coat warm churro bites in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.
