Description
These fudgy brownies combine rich chocolate and brewed espresso for a dessert that’s perfect for coffee lovers.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup brewed espresso or strong coffee
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for frosting)
- 2 tablespoons brewed espresso (for frosting)
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
- Optional toppings: chocolate shavings, chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, or hazelnuts), flaky sea salt, a dusting of cocoa powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan. Line with parchment if desired.
- In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the butter and stir in the granulated sugar until glossy.
- Remove from heat and let cool slightly (3-5 minutes) before whisking in the eggs one at a time and adding vanilla.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.
- Fold in the brewed espresso and chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out mostly clean with a few moist crumbs.
- Let the brownies cool completely before frosting with the mixture of powdered sugar, brewed espresso, and cocoa powder.
- Add optional toppings as desired and cut into squares to serve.
Notes
For a shiny, crackly top, avoid overmixing the batter and whisk the sugar into the melted butter while warm.
