Ingredients

  • 2 pie crusts
  • 6 cups sliced apples (mix of sweet and tart)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 beaten egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice; let sit for about 10 minutes.
  3. Roll out one pie crust and place it in a pie dish.
  4. Pour the apple filling into the crust and dot with small pieces of butter.
  5. Roll out the second crust and place it over the apples; trim edges and pinch to seal.
  6. Vent the top crust by making slits to allow steam to escape.
  7. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and apples are bubbling.
  9. Let the pie cool before serving.
