- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp baking powder

- ½ cup packed brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup molasses
- ½ cup hot water
- ¼ cup whole milk
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 3 ½ cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 2–3 tbsp heavy cream or milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Mini gingerbread house cookies
- Red, green, and white pearl sprinkles
- Optional: sanding sugar or nonpareils
Instructions
- Gather all necessary ingredients.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves.
- Cream the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and molasses, mixing until smooth.
- Gradually combine the dry mixture with milk and hot water, mixing until just combined.
- Fill cupcake liners two-thirds full.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool cupcakes in the tin for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For frosting, beat softened butter until creamy, then add powdered sugar gradually, mixing until fluffy. Add vanilla extract and cream/milk as needed.
- Once cooled, pipe frosting onto cupcakes.
- Decorate with mini gingerbread houses and festive sprinkles.
Notes
Store undecorated cupcakes at room temperature for up to 3 days; refrigerated frosted cupcakes last up to 4 days.
