Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and a pinch of sugar. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add sugar, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Gradually stir in flour until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for 10–12 minutes until smooth or use a mixer for 7–10 minutes.
  4. Lightly grease a bowl, place dough inside, and cover. Let rise for 1 to 1 ½ hours until doubled in size.
  5. Gently punch down dough and divide into 16–20 pieces. Roll into 6–8 inch ropes and place on parchment-lined baking sheets.
  6. Cover breadsticks and let rise for another 30–45 minutes. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown. Rotate trays halfway through baking.
  8. Melt butter, stir in garlic powder, and brush over breadsticks immediately after baking.
  9. Serve warm with sauces, soups, or salads. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
