Description
A naturally sweet and spiced peach butter made with fresh peaches, gently simmered until thick and smooth. Perfect for toast, yogurt, or baking.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 lbs fresh ripe peaches (peeled or unpeeled, pitted, and chopped)
- ½ cup sugar, honey, or sucanat (optional, to taste)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
- ¼ tsp nutmeg or ginger (optional)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional, for brightness)
Instructions
- Prep the Peaches: Wash, pit, and chop peaches. Peeling is optional. Blend or process into a smooth puree.
- Cook the Puree:
Choose either:- Stovetop: Pour puree into a pot. Simmer over medium-low heat for 30–45 minutes, stirring regularly.
- Slow Cooker: Pour puree into slow cooker. Cook on low for 6–8 hours with lid slightly ajar.
- Add Flavor (Optional): Once reduced and thickened, stir in sweetener and spices to taste. Continue simmering another 10–15 minutes if needed.
- Test for Doneness: Butter is done when it mounds on a spoon and is thick but spreadable.
- Store or Can: Spoon into sterilized jars.
- For canning: Water-bath process for 10 minutes.
- Or refrigerate for 2–3 weeks or freeze for up to a year.
Notes
For the best flavor, use fully ripe, juicy peaches. Try blending varieties for depth. Taste and adjust sweetness as needed after reducing.
