- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1/2 cup milk
- 6 tablespoons hot cocoa powder
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1 1/4 cups confectioners’ sugar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, melted butter, and hot water until smooth.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Fill each cupcake liner about two-thirds full with batter and bake for 18-22 minutes.
- Let the cupcakes cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream and confectioners’ sugar until stiff peaks form.
- Once cupcakes are cool, frost with the whipped cream and garnish as desired.
- Serve immediately or store as directed.

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 1 day at room temperature or 3-4 days in the refrigerator.
