A delightful pastry featuring a creamy cheese filling and sweet cherries, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp lemon juice (optional)
- ½ cup cherry pie filling or cherry compote
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tsp milk
- ¼ tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, mix softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon juice until smooth.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry and cut it into rectangles or squares.
- Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry piece and top with cherry filling.
- Fold the sides of the pastry over the filling, creating a braid if desired.
- Whisk the egg with 1 tablespoon of water and brush over the tops of the pastries.
- Bake for 18–22 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.
- Let cool slightly and then drizzle with glaze made from powdered sugar, milk, and additional vanilla extract if using.
Notes
Store Danishes at room temperature for up to 1 day or refrigerate for 3-4 days. They can also be frozen for up to 2 months.
