Description

A delightful pastry featuring a creamy cheese filling and sweet cherries, perfect for breakfast or dessert.


Ingredients

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp lemon juice (optional)
  • ½ cup cherry pie filling or cherry compote
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tsp milk
  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon juice until smooth.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry and cut it into rectangles or squares.
  4. Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry piece and top with cherry filling.
  5. Fold the sides of the pastry over the filling, creating a braid if desired.
  6. Whisk the egg with 1 tablespoon of water and brush over the tops of the pastries.
  7. Bake for 18–22 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.
  8. Let cool slightly and then drizzle with glaze made from powdered sugar, milk, and additional vanilla extract if using.

Notes

Store Danishes at room temperature for up to 1 day or refrigerate for 3-4 days. They can also be frozen for up to 2 months.
