Description
Homemade cheese crackers that are flaky, cheesy, and perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 tsp fine sea salt
- 2–4 tbsp cold water
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and fine sea salt until well combined.
- Add the cold unsalted butter cubes and cut into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the freshly grated sharp cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
- Gradually add cold water, mixing gently until the dough starts to come together.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface, gather into a ball, flatten into a disc, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll the chilled dough into a very thin rectangle, about 1/16 to 1/8 inch thick.
- Cut the dough into desired cracker shapes and transfer to the prepared baking sheet.
- Poke holes in the center of each cracker to prevent puffing.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and very crisp.
- Remove from the oven and cool completely on a wire rack.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
Notes
For best freshness, store crackers in an airtight container. They can be reheated in a 300°F oven to restore crispness.
