Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing until incorporated, then stir in the buttermilk and 2 teaspoons vanilla.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 22–28 minutes until the edges are golden and a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  8. Prepare the glaze while the bars cool: whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and milk to desired consistency.
  9. Spread the glaze over the warm bars and allow to cool completely.
  10. Slice into squares and serve at room temperature.

Notes

  2. Use room-temperature ingredients for better emulsion. Glazing while warm helps the glaze adhere properly.
