Description

Crunchy taco shells filled with juicy seasoned beef and melted cheese, perfect for a quick and delicious dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning or homemade mix
  • 2/3 cup tomato sauce or salsa
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 8 hard taco shells
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Mexican blend)
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro (optional)
  • Sour cream (optional)
  • Guacamole (optional)
  • Jalapeño slices (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sauté the diced onion for about 5 to 7 minutes until translucent.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it into small crumbles, and cook until browned.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute. Add taco seasoning and stir to coat the meat and onions. Cook for another minute to toast the spices.
  4. Pour in tomato sauce or salsa and let simmer on low heat for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally and adjusting seasoning with salt and pepper.
  5. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and spray a baking dish with cooking oil.
  6. Fill each taco shell with about 2 to 3 tablespoons of the meat mixture and top with shredded cheese. Arrange them upright in the baking dish.
  7. Sprinkle remaining cheese over the tops of the filled taco shells.
  8. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the cheese is melted and the shells are crispy. Optionally broil for 1 to 3 minutes for extra crispness.
  9. Let cool for 5 minutes, then prepare toppings like lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, and cilantro.
  10. Serve the tacos with toppings for a customizable experience.

Notes

Keep the toppings ready before the tacos hit the table for a more enjoyable experience.
