Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs. Mix on medium speed until well combined, about 2 minutes.
In a separate bowl, mix together the creamy peanut butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and chopped Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups into the chocolate cake batter.
Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan with cooking spray or butter.
Pour half of the chocolate cake batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
Drop spoonfuls of the peanut butter mixture over the chocolate cake batter to create a swirl effect.
Pour the remaining chocolate cake batter over the top, covering the peanut butter layer completely.
If using, sprinkle chopped pecans on top of the batter.
Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes.
Gently loosen the edges from the pan and cut the cake into squares.
Serve each piece with a dollop of whipped topping, if desired.
Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for extended freshness.
For longer storage, freeze individual pieces wrapped in plastic wrap for up to 3 months.
