- 6 ounces warm water
- 5 tablespoons meringue powder
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1 bag (2 pounds) confectioners (powdered) sugar
- 1 teaspoon clear vanilla (optional)
Instructions
- Add warm water to a mixing bowl.
- Slowly add meringue powder to the water, about 1 tablespoon at a time, and mix with a hand whisk until dissolved.
- Whisk in cream of tartar.
- If using, add clear vanilla to the bowl and gently whisk.
- Pour all of the confectioners’ sugar into the bowl all at once.
- If using a stand mixer, set it to the lowest setting and mix for 10 minutes, scraping down the sides once with a silicone spatula.
- The royal icing is now ready. Divide it and prepare for outline and flood fill thickness, adding food color if desired.
