Description
A delightful homemade salted caramel ice cream recipe that merges creaminess with the luxurious sweetness of caramel and a hint of sea salt.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 cup caramel sauce
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, and granulated sugar. Place over medium heat and stir gently until the sugar dissolves, approximately 3-5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and sea salt. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions (typically 20-25 minutes) until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
- During the final minutes of churning, drizzle in the caramel sauce and fold in nuts if using.
- Transfer to an airtight container, drizzle extra caramel sauce on top, and freeze for at least 4 hours until firm.
- Before serving, let ice cream sit at room temperature for 5-10 minutes to soften.
Notes
Press parchment paper onto the surface of the ice cream before sealing to reduce ice crystals.
