Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 – 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chicken or vegetable broth (optional)
  • 1 – 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Wash the green beans thoroughly and trim the stem ends. Blanch in boiling salted water for 2-3 minutes and then plunge into an ice bath. Drain well.
  2. Peel and finely mince the garlic.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt the butter until it shimmers.
  4. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds to 1 minute until fragrant and lightly golden.
  5. Add the green beans and toss gently to coat in the garlic butter.
  6. Season with salt and pepper, then sauté blanched beans for 3-5 minutes or unblanched for 8-12 minutes until desired tenderness is reached.
  7. If needed, add broth to steam and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes. Remove lid and cook an additional minute to evaporate liquid.
  8. Adjust seasoning if necessary and garnish with parsley before serving.
