Ingredients

  • 1 lb sirloin or ribeye beef, sliced into strips
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce, divided
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Colorful bell peppers, sliced (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil. Marinate the beef strips in this mixture for about 10-15 minutes.
  2. In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for 5-7 minutes until soft and caramelized. Remove and set aside.
  3. Increase the pan heat to high, add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, and sear the marinated beef strips for 2-3 minutes until browned and cooked through.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Pour this sauce over the cooked beef and let simmer for 2-3 minutes until thickened.
  5. Add the sautéed onions back into the skillet, stirring to coat everything in the sauce. Serve hot over rice or noodles.
