Description

Homemade Southern Cheese Crackers that are simple, crispy, and infused with a hint of cayenne for a perfect snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Cold water, as needed

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, shredded cheese, softened butter, salt, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper until crumbly.
  3. Gradually add cold water to the mixture until it forms a dough.
  4. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick.
  5. Cut into squares or desired shapes and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  7. Allow to cool and serve as a snack or appetizer.

Notes

Keep ingredients cold for better texture and avoid overworking the dough to ensure flaky crackers. Store in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
