- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Assorted hard candies (like Jolly Ranchers) for the centers
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In another bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until creamy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until fully combined.
- Gradually add the flour mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
- Use cookie cutters to cut shapes out of the dough, then use a smaller cutter to create a hole in the center of each cookie.
- Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Fill the center cutouts with crushed hard candies.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let cool completely before removing the cookies from the baking sheet.
- Optional: Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
