Description

A sweet and slightly elegant strawberry braided pastry that looks impressive but is simple to make. Perfect for any occasion!


Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup (113.5g) Cream cheese (25% or more fat)
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 1 large Egg yolk
  • 1 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp Lemon zest
  • 1 sheet (245g) Puff pastry, chilled (not frozen)
  • ½ cup (170g) Strawberry jam
  • 1 Beaten egg for egg wash

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, flour, vanilla extract, and lemon zest until smooth.
  2. Unroll the puff pastry on a floured surface, rolling into a rectangle (10×14 inches) if necessary.
  3. Spoon cream cheese filling down the center third of the pastry and spread the strawberry jam on top, leaving a small border.
  4. Cut diagonal strips from the outer thirds of the pastry towards the filling without cutting into the filling.
  5. Fold the top and bottom edges over the filling to seal, then alternate folding strips over the filling to create a braid.
  6. Transfer to a baking sheet, brush with the egg wash, and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Remove from oven and cool for 5-10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool further. Slice and serve.

Notes

Best enjoyed warm or at room temperature. This pastry reheats well.
