Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup strawberries, chopped
  • 1/2 cup strawberry jam
  • Oil for frying (neutral oil like canola or vegetable)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until combined.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs until pale, then add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  3. Combine wet and dry ingredients, folding gently until just mixed. Adjust with milk if too thick.
  4. Heat oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Pipe rounds of batter into the oil or drop spoonfuls, frying until golden brown, about 1–2 minutes per side.
  6. Beat together cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth to make the filling.
  7. Fill cooled donuts with the cream cheese mixture using a piping bag.
  8. Top each donut with chopped strawberries and a drizzle of warmed strawberry jam.
