Description

Deliciously soft and chewy sugar cookie bars topped with creamy buttercream frosting, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup butter for buttercream
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • Sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Spread the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until lightly golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  8. Let the bars cool, then prepare the buttercream frosting by beating the softened butter until smooth, then gradually add powdered sugar and milk.
  9. Spread the buttercream over the cooled bars and sprinkle with optional sprinkles.
  10. Cut into squares and serve.

Notes

For richer flavor, consider browning the butter before adding it to the sugar. Use room temperature ingredients for a smoother batter.
