Instructions

1. Preheat Oven – Set oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans. 2. Prepare Base Batter – In one bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In another, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, starting and ending with dry. 3. Divide and Flavor Batter – Split batter evenly into 3 bowls. – Chocolate Layer: Mix cocoa powder into one portion. – Vanilla Layer: Add vanilla extract to the second portion. – Strawberry Layer: Add strawberry puree and pink coloring to the third portion. 4. Bake the Layers – Pour each batter into a separate prepared pan. Bake 20–25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. 5. Cool and Assemble – Cool layers completely. Level tops if necessary. Stack layers in your chosen order, spreading frosting between each. Frost the outside and decorate as desired. 6. Serve and Store – Serve at room temperature. Store covered in fridge for up to 4 days or freeze slices individually.

Notes

For richer chocolate flavor, use Dutch-processed cocoa powder. For the strawberry layer, fresh or frozen strawberries can be pureed.
