Description
This classic peach cobbler features a sweet, buttery batter that rises around juicy peaches for a golden, caramelized dessert. Perfect served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Ingredients
Scale
For the peach layer:
- 5 ripe peaches, peeled and sliced (or 1 quart canned peaches, drained slightly)
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
For the batter:
- 6 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¾ cup milk
- Ground cinnamon for sprinkling
Instructions
- Prep the peaches: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the sliced peaches, sugar, and salt. Cook for 2–4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves and the peaches release juices. Remove from heat.
- Melt the butter: Place the butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish (or similar size) and set it in the oven while it preheats to 350°F (175°C), allowing the butter to melt fully. Remove once melted.
- Mix the batter: In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk until the batter is smooth and lump-free.
- Assemble the cobbler: Pour the batter over the melted butter in the baking dish — do not stir. Spoon the peach mixture evenly over the batter, including some of the juices. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon to taste.
- Bake: Bake uncovered at 350°F for about 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly around the edges.
- Serve warm: Let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
Notes
You can substitute canned or frozen peaches (thawed and drained) if fresh are not available. This cobbler is best served warm and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
